About UpGarden

Our Giving Garden Team grows organic fruits and vegetables for our neighborhood shelters, food banks, and other organizations in need of healthy FREE produce. Our motto is 'We grow to give!' The Garden launched in July 2012. UpGarden was one of a handful of Seattle Area P-Patch Giving Gardens that grew and donated over 30,000 pounds, in 2016, to the community in need.

We gave 762.3 lbs of produce in 2021, a season that was challenged by the pandemic, to Ballard, University, and Queen Anne food banks.

The UpGarden P-Patch was created in 2012. An agreement between the Dept. of Neighborhoods (DON) and the Seattle Center outlined the legal/administrative parameters of our community garden. The Mercer Street Parking Garage on which the UpGarden sits was built in 1962 for the Worlds Fair and has recently been substantially renovated.
